Jade Origins
Jade goes back to Neolithic times in China, when it was used to make tools and weapons, as well as symbolic objects for ritual. Known as the “Stone of Heaven” in Chinese culture, where religion, ceremonies, philosophy and art are all closely bound with it.
Known as Greenstone in New Zealand, or Pounamu in the Maori language. Greenstone is a dark version of Jade, found in New Zealand. It has been used by the Maori and various other polynesian cultures, as a decorative and protective stone, and was also used for making tools and stones.

Jade was also present in Mesoamerica, although very sparingly. It was used for symbolic and ideological rituals, highly prized for its rarity by the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, such as Mayan culture.
