Marshmallow Calcite Origins (aka: Pink Mangano Calcite & Pink Calcite)

Pink Calcite is a manganese calcium carbonate mineral and member of the Calcite family. Its color can range from light to dark pink depending on the amount of Manganese in it. First discovered in 1846 in Slovakia by a geologist by the name of A. Breithaupt, who named the stone in reference to the Manganese found within it. This also set up for decades to come, the debate as to what truly makes a Maganese Calcite stone, and for which it was officially decided that 30% Manganese is required to make it an officially accepted Manganese Calcite stone. Today, most Mangano Calcite on the market comes from Romania, Peru, Bulgaria, Mexico, Madagascar, Russia, Australia and Japan.
