Desert Rose Origins

The Desert Rose resembles a cluster of rose petals, and ranges from brown and tan, to cream and white. It is also sometimes referred to as: Gypsum Rose, Selenite Rose, Rose Rock, Gypsum Rosette, and Sand Rose. It is found in many desert areas like Algeria, Australia and Spain.

 

The Desert Rose has a long and unique creation story worth telling! It is made of Selenite Gypsum that occurs naturally in desert areas, then during it's life journey combines with Barite, clustering together to form a mass which is then subjected over time to wind and sand erosion, and hence the stone petals that we call Desert Rose. Each stone is said to be unique and to have a spirit guardian hidden within its petals. 

 

Being a soft mineral, the Desert Rose crystal should never be exposed to water (or kept in such places as kitchens and bathrooms) as this will change its shape. It should be cleansed by smudging or with moonlight. It is said that placing a rose in the four corners of your home will ward off negative energies and elements.
