Turquoise Origins
From ancient Egypt to the Aztecs, from the Shang Dynasty and Mesopotamia, to finally being introduced into Europe through Turkey and the Silk Road, this stone has endeared many great cultures of antiquity with its gorgeous bright blue hue. The bright blue stone is recognized for it's beauty, and its spiderweb matrix of black or brown veining, made from limonite deposits.

Turquoise is quite possibly the most prominent stone known to man's history. Worn by kings, shamans, and warriors, it's the protector stone and success stone of all the ages. The stone earned its name, from its journey across the trade route that brought it to Europe. Its name derives from the French words, pierre turquoise, translated “Turkish stone”. In the Americas, the Aztecs, Pueblo, Navajo and Apache tribes cherished turquoise for its decorative use, protective qualities and to adorn great warriors and chiefs. Throughout history a few tribes were able to prosper from the trade of turquoise objects, however the distinctive jewelry produced by the Navajo and other tribes today is more of a modern development, thought to date from around 1880. Much like Jade, Turquoise is thought to have protected you if you find it has chipped.
